IE-W1 IELTS Workshop in Apr 2018

This IELTS workshop aims to prepare participants for tackling different parts of the test with skills and confidence.  It will familiarize participants with the format of the test and help them develop strategies to perform effectively through focused practice.


The workshop will include:

  1. An overview of the format of the IELTS test, and the focus of different sections
  2. A study of the essential skills needed for the writing, speaking, listening, and reading parts of the test
  3. Practice of required skills under guidance and corrective feedback
  4. Focused discussion on key problem areas in grammar and pronunciation


Details of the 18-hour workshop:

a) Six class sessions on:

     Apr 10 (Tue) 7:00-9:30pm;   Apr 14 (Sat) 1:00-4:00pm

     Apr 17 (Tue) 7:00-9:30pm;   Apr 21 (Sat) 1:00-4:00pm

     Apr 24 (Tue) 7:00-9:30pm;   Apr 28 (Sat) 1:00-4:00pm, and


b) One small group/one-to-one tutorial (1.5 hour) to be individually arranged



Dr Vaughan MAK

MA in Language Studies (Lancaster, UK), MA in Christian Counseling (Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, USA), PhD in Foreign Language Education (Texas at Austin, USA).  Dr. Mak has over 15 years of teaching experience across the secondary, post-secondary, undergraduate, and graduate levels both local and abroad. Before joining Lumina College, he was Head of English and European Languages at the School of Continuing and Professional Studies in The Chinese University of Hong Kong, and Senior Lecturer at the School of Continuing Education in Hong Kong Baptist University.  At the University of Texas, he assisted the teaching of several academic writing and communication courses in the Graduate School, and received the Outstanding Teaching Assistant Award in 2003 and 2004.  At Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, he served as Tutor at the Writing Center, providing coaching and guidance on graduate-level writing for students from both native and non-native language backgrounds.


Dr. Mak has taught and designed a variety of courses including English for Academic / Specific Purposes, Workplace Communication, College Composition, Research Writing, Literary Appreciation, Introduction to Linguistics, etc.  He has also conducted workshops on Principles of Teaching, Developmental and Learning Needs of Youths, Interview Skills, Leadership, Teamwork, and Career Planning for participants from a wide spectrum of intellectual levels and professional experience.

Course Fee: HK$1,500 (refundable upon payment of first tuition installment for any of Lumina’s Master programs).  
IELTS test fee is not covered.
