Program overview

This Master of Education program with a concentration on Educational Leadership helps you develop the skills, knowledge base, and dispositions you need to become a responsive and transformative educator or school leader. Based on a Christian framework, the curriculum represents a unique blend of understanding and expertise in education, leadership, and organization management. You can go in-depth with the latest theory and research, and you will also have space to work on projects that shape your learning to needs relevant to your own professional context.

This program brings together those aspiring to work in a leadership role at various levels or in different settings of education, from system leaders or senior administrators to heads of school or teacher leaders who promote the development of positive environments for learning and personal growth.

Both Calvin and Lumina share a vision of Christian education that brings together deep learning, Christian faith, and the transformative power of the Gospel to shape learning and transform culture.

Face the challenges of the time.

Go beyond facts and skills to see and act in truth, valuing human dignity above mere utility. Discover greater possibilities as you develop your heart for God's created world, inspiring those whom you serve to seek God's kingdom in the midst of daily challenges.

Build a foundation of social and cultural renewal.

Co-create with God a society and culture that brings hope, grace, and goodness. Explore how education is a process awakening you to God's hand in the world, shaping yourself — and your students — with the values and vocation of bringing the kingdom of heaven on earth.

Lead the next generation into fullness of life.

Be equipped to shine a light for society, setting direction and strategies for devising educational structures that encourage loving God with mind and strength. As an educational leader, you can lead the way forward in stewarding and redeeming God's created world, helping fellow humans to flourish with their gifts and potential.

A glimpse into studies with Calvin University

A little more detail

Calvin University is a Christian liberal arts school in Grand Rapids, Michigan, USA. It is animated by a Reformed Christian faith and equips students to think deeply, act justly, and live wholeheartedly as Christ’s agents of renewal in the world.

Calvin University was founded in 1876 and named for 16th-century reformer John Calvin. While retaining a separate identity and function, the university is united in a covenantal relationship with the Christian Reformed Church in North America.

Throughout the duration of the program, students will study together with the same group (the cohort), going through the same courses together in the same sequence. This has the benefit of building a strong sense of community within the learning cohort.

Our model of hybrid learning combines face-to-face instruction with online learning. Each course in the program begins with several classes of face-to-face instruction and is supplemented by online learning, which offers greater flexibility on your time. Online learning involves learning through a multimedia platform, discussions with peers and faculty, peer reviews of papers and assignments, and more.

Ana, class of 2023, has had her eyes opened to ways of shaping classroom culture that are inclusive, creative, and practical.

Samuel, class of 2023, feels equipped to be a better advocate for students of diverse learning needs.

Whether you study in the U.S. or Hong Kong, there is no difference in terms of the master's degree obtained, as the Hong Kong degree program is recognized as identical by both the U.S. degree-granting university and the Hong Kong government.
The added benefits of studying in Hong Kong include 1) saving on the expenses and energy of traveling to the U.S. to study, and 2) learning and applying knowledge from the courses into the local Hong Kong and Asian contexts, as the program is taught by both local and overseas faculty.
This program is registered with the Hong Kong Education Bureau and the respective registration number is shown on the program brochure. From the perspective of the Hong Kong government and/or employers in Hong Kong, the degree is the same as one earned from studying the same program in the U.S.

In addition, Calvin University is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools.

  • Application fee: HK$200 / US$25 (for overseas applicants)
