Lumina Prayer Letter (January 11, 2019)

“Many are the plans in a person’s heart,
but it is the Lord’s purpose that prevails.”
(Proverbs 19:21)

By God’s grace, we are joyful in the New Year to share with you:

  1. Our first book “Christian Mind in the Emergent World: Faith Integration in Asian Contexts from Global Perspectives” was published by Cambridge Scholars Publisher and can be ordered from Amazon.

  2. We celebrated our first diploma program graduates in October, with Sindy Leung and Tang Wing Kei shared their learning.

  3. We successfully launched the first master program in September 2018: Wheaton College MA in Intercultural Studies with a small cohort from Hong Kong and Taiwan. Higher Learning Commission of the US will visit Lumina College in January for overseas site approval exercise on behalf of Wheaton College.

  4. We have launched the second faculty development series, in partnership with Hong Kong U: Future of Business in an Age of Technology. About 10 participants joined from teaching and business backgrounds.

  5. We launched the first education consultation on the future leaders in Christian education in November 2018.  The next consultation will focus on uniqueness of Christian education to be held on January 12, 2019. These consultations will pave way for the Master of Education in Education Leadership with Calvin College.

  6. We shall host a booth in the January education exhibition organized by Trade Development Council of HK and deliver a talk: Re-inventing the University: Asian Hub for Christian Higher Education. Please help to spread the words of our wonderful master programs partnering with Cairn U (MBA), Asbury U (MA communication), Wheaton College (MA intercultural studies) and Calvin College (Master of Education). Exhibition Date: Jan 24 - 27, 2019 , Venue: Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre

  7. We welcome Dr. Winnie Fung to join Lumina College as Associate Professor full time. She has taught and tenured in Wheaton College and a scholar in economics and development. She started teaching our diploma programs and will teach the coming master course with Wheaton in spring on transformational development.

  8. We are grateful to Dr. Vaughan Mak who headed up our Academic programs for the past two years, especially in partnering with American universities and the registration of our masters programs with the HK government. He will be leaving Lumina and we wish him every success in the future.

  9. Finally Wing Tai received a surprise award by the Hong Kong publishing-design-printing industries. A life achievement award for his work during his 43 years with Breakthrough in youth media and leadership education. God be praised.

  10. May you continue to remember Lumina College in your prayers, especially for the successful launching of new master programs. And pray for the social education programs for secondary students in Dragon Garden.

Blessing from Wing Tai
