Christian Mind in the Emerging World:

Academic Faith Integration in Asian Contexts from a Global Perspective

    “Academic Faith Integration” is the integration of Faith and Learning. Besides seeking ways to embrace diversity in various global worldviews, Christians are also concerned with the discernment of truth, and are seeking integration of faith and learning, cross-culturally and cross-disciplinarily. But how can academic faith integration be achieved?

    Lumina College is a Christian institute of higher learning established in Hong Kong in 2015 which strives to promote a Christian perspective of life/ worldview in dialogue with other secular and global worldviews. It also seeks integration between Christian faith and learning in various disciplines.  In this conference, Lumina College Research Institute invites scholars from a wide range of cross-cultural and cross-disciplinary circles to present papers, especially those who are committed to opening dialogues, or are interested to learn about the possible integration between faith and learning in higher education from a global perspective, without overlooking the Asian contexts where we are from.

Proposed Topics

The following topics will be the core concerns of this coming conference:

  1. Mission and objectives of Christian higher education today - The importance of integrating faith and learning as the essential issue for defining Christian higher education and Christian movements in the Asian contexts; e.g. How is faith integration explicitly stated in the mission statements of Christian Colleges?

  2. How should academic faith integration be brought about in Asian contexts – Especially with regard to the Asian understanding of holistic worldviews, ethics and spirituality, and the emphasis on human relationships?

  3. Integrations or the re-shaping of faith and learning in different academic disciplines, such as Arts, Natural Sciences, and Social Sciences; or in different workplaces and professions such as medical, military, and social work arenas;

  4. Integration of faith and knowledge in science and technology – How do we face the dominance of techno-poly, artificial intelligence, smart devices, cloning and other technological cultures?

  5. The impact of faith-learning integration on individual learners, learning communities, institutions and society at large.
